Kill or Cure I & II

about

The demo and lyrics for "Kill or Cure (I & II)" were created in my bedroom at the house I grew up in between 2-5 November 2012, and remixed at my modest home studio (I call it Moleman Studio) in November 2021. As well as improving upon the existing mix, I recorded new Hammond organ and Mellotron parts to add some texture. Everything else you hear are my original demo tracks. I'm absolutely horrible at mastering and find it enormously difficult, so I turned to an online mastering platform called LANDR for this and was quite pleased with the result.
There is space for an extra verse after the short guitar solo and I was tempted to write and record some additional vocals too, but I thought it would be more interesting to leave it empty and let the listener either enjoy the calm interlude or perhaps try to imagine what kind of vocal may have filled that gap.

The song was written as part of the "Progress and Failure" concept album, where the 2 parts would have been presented as separate tracks rather than the amalgamation that you hear in this version. The 2 parts of "Kill or Cure" would have been expanded upon to become standalone songs in their own right.

I've always believed that the music of HeKz is capable of great 'light and shade,' and the prospect of doing an entirely acoustic (or in this case, mostly acoustic) song has always excited me. Perhaps we'll finally get to do one on TERRA NOVA, otherwise I have a nifty little acoustic arrangement in mind for the 5th HeKz album ...

But that's a story for another day. I hope that you've enjoyed listening to this lost artifact from the HeKz HQ Vaults, your support means the world to me and the band.

lyrics

Driving at a hundred miles an hour into oncoming traffic
The point's been made before but it never seems to stick.
Let me explain in case you missed it before
When the well runs dry it won't fill any more

The problem's getting worse now by the hour but nobody seems to care
We fool ourselves that we can't make a difference but we all could do our share

Let me explain in case you missed it before
When the well runs dry it won't fill any more

This is not the point of no return,
We can still make a change if we listen and we learn
For all the facts, we just can't know
Will we find the cure or deal the killing blow?

The minutes fly in this eleventh hour,
there is still time but we have to be swift
We have the knowledge and we have the power,
let's use it right and save this precious gift.

Let me explain in case you missed it before
When the well runs dry it won't fill any more

This is not the point of no return,
We can still make a change if we listen and we learn
For all the facts, we just can't know
Will we find the cure or deal the killing blow?
